This post is long overdue! I knew I wanted to remember this moment for the rest of our lives so I literally wrote what’s below in a my notes a few days after Patrick Proposed. I never intended on making this public, it truly was just a dairy for me to look back on and potentially inspire some of my vows. However I am always an open book and felt this is a core memory that I should share!
Our Proposal: On August 23, 2021 the moment I waited 7 years for finally had come. Patrick proposed to my in Tulum at Casa Malca. If you didn’t know- Casa Malca is Pablo Escobar’s old mansion which IMO is a pretty badass place to get engaged! It was everything I could of ever imagined and more.
So the burning question I get asked is “Was Patrick acting normal all day or could you pick up on signs?” Well besides being on his phone a lot (which I found out later he was texting our family details), leaving me at breakfast for a little too long, and insisting we keep the curtain closed while getting ready in our room, he was acting totally normal!
As we got ready together and the first song he put in was our song āWildā by John Legend. I remember being in the shower tearing up because I always tear up at that song. FYI- this is a song we always planned to play during our wedding. After the proposal I asked if he put that song on purposely, he said no! Either he is trying to hide his mushy side OR life has a great way of timing things perfectly.
Before we left for dinner Patrick was pacing (but I really didnāt notice until thinking back and dissecting his every move once he proposed). Apparently he was waiting to hear from the photographer to make sure everything was a go! Not only did he have to make sure his plan was set in place but It was of course raining so he wanted to time everything correctly. A little rain on an engagement day must be good luck!
The weather looked great so we headed out to take our own photos around the hotel before dinner (which was our normal night routine since Iām all about the photo oops)! Well as we walked down the stairs he grabbed my hand and said āI planned a surprise for you- we are going to do a photoshoot” and I immediately knew what was about to happen. The way he said it was so calm and almost emotional.
Tears formed in my eyes as we walked past the pool towards the rose petals on the beach. Patrick was telling me how much he loved me and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me- which thank god he did that as we were walking over because I truly blacked out once he got on a knee. There werenāt many people around but I wouldnāt have noticed them anyway. We walked through this beautiful whicker tunnel that had been covered with beautiful rose petals. Patrick grabbed my hand and said he loved me and asked me to marry him. It was the best moment of my life. I blacked out but I think I said yes or I nodded my head. All I know if the ring was on my finger and we were kissing!
As if the night couldn’t get any better he said I have another surprise for you! I took over and see both of our families running over! I cried for what felt like forever! I couldn’t believe he got away with such an extravagant surprise. As we stood in the tunnel and took the moment in, a server came out with champagne! It was like a fairy tale. I kept saying is this really our life?! I couldnāt believe the man of my dreams pulled off the most epic and amazing engagement. He told me I deserve the would
but really he does.
We went off and took the most EPIC engagement photos Iāve ever seen! The one thing about Patrick is that he wants to do everything THE RIGHT way. While he is typically humble and reversed, when the time comes, he loves to have the WOW factor. After our photos we opened gifts from friends and family, popped champagne, faceTimed friends, and headed to dinner!
During dinner we had lots of drinks and sparklers brought our way! It felt like one huge celebration! Patrick told me he had jotted down his speech he said to me before he proposed because he didn’t want to forget anything. I read what he wrote and started crying again. Im so thankfully we have it to look back on.
After dinner Patrick and I wanted to soak in the moment alone so we headed back to where he proposed. It was pitch dark not but the tunnel was all light up. The rose petals remained. We sat there and took everything in. It was so romantic and special. I am so happy we took that moment for ourselves. After lots of celebrations, drinks, and sparklers, I can truly say was the best day of my life thus far!
